Alain Robert, French climber and self-styled ‘spiderman’ took just 10 minutes to scale the 100-metre (230 ft) Amanora Towers, considered Pune’s tallest structure, on Sunday.
Thousands of people thronged the Amanora township in Hadapsar to witness the daredevil act of the 46-yearold climber who defied death in climbing the 22-storied building without using safety devices. Many a nail-biting moment was witnessed by all who gathered at the venue.
For a man who has scaled some of the world’s tallest buildings with just a pair of climbing shoes and a bag of chalk for grip, Sunday’s feat was a cakewalk for Robert and he finished his ascent at 6.30 pm. Waving to the enthusiasts below after reaching the top, he began climbing down and finished that in another 10 minutes.
Dipak Jadhav, general manager (marketing) Amanora Park Town said, “We were looking for an apt way to promote the residential building that is Pune’s tallest building, and we learnt about Alain and his scaling feats. Alain was also looking to climb a tall structure in India. We approached him and he graciously agreed to climb the building.” Umesh Isalkar | TNN
