The matter concerns the controversy surrounding this year’s visarjan or immersion of the Ganesh idols, which is slated to take place on September 3.City organisations are at loggerheads over the manner in which Pune will bid farewell to its favourite deity.
On one hand, there are those who are opposing immersion in the river, citing pollution and water shortage as reasons, while on the other, there are those who strongly believe that tradition should not be compromised for anything.
The Maharashtra Andhshraddha Nirmulan Samiti (ANS), spearheading the anti-superstition movement in the state, has hitherto advocated donating Ganesh idols after the festival.
