PMRDA should have all the powers MMRDA has!

"The executive committee of Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) should have powers like enjoyed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA).

This would mean the PMRDA will not have to approach the government every time it needed sanction for a development plan or project.

The rules framed by the government so far are general in nature and would not have any significant effect as far as planned development of the region is concerned," Ujjwal Keskar, member of the metropolitan planning committee.
As per an ordinance promulgated recently by the state government, the Area Development Authority's powers and functions includes undertaking preparation and execution of town planning schemes with regard to the draft development plan prepared by the metropolitan planning committee, carry out surveys in the development area to prepare town planning schemes, and controlling the development activities.

Besides these, the authority can levy or collect scrutiny fees for proposals submitted to the authority for permission for development.

It can also execute water supply and sewage works, as well as making provision for other services and amenities.

The state government would be determining the amount which has to be contributed by local civic bodies for the expenses incurred by the Area Development Authority.

The PMRDA covers the areas under municipal councils and corporations, including those of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Lonavla, Talegaon, Bhor, Shirur, Saswad as well as the Pune, Khadki and Dehu Road cantonment boards, with 100 nearby villages. The total area is spread over 3,000 sq km
