Pune’s civic authorities are having to fall back on history to combat water shortage.
Two tanks, dating back to the era of the Peshwas, have been opened in Shivdarshan area in Parvati, to relieve residents who are facing 40 per cent water cuts.
About four thousand people have taken water from these tanks for their daily needs excluding that of drinking.
Meanwhile, some historians and academicians had suggested in the past to relocate the system providing water to Shaniwar Wada from Katraj Lake.
But later it was found by the PMC officials that too much drainage water was mixed in the system to use it as a viable source. Therefore the idea was never taken seriously in the past.
