Citizens can move high court against Pune Municipal Corporation's "water affidavits" policy

Civic body has violated the provisions of BPMC Act, 1949 by transferring its mandatory duty of supplying water to citizens to the builders

According to advocate DG Sant, who represents the city consumer organisation Grahak Hitavardhini, the PMC, while granting building permissions on the strength of the affidavits from the developers/builders, has violated the BPMC Act, 1949, which has no provision whereby a municipal corporation can transfer its mandatory duty to any private party.
