Villagers of Urali Devachi and Phursungi give "Final Warning" to Pune Municipal Corporation

Enraged by the recent fire at the garbage dump, the villagers of Urali Devachi and Phursungi on Monday told the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) that dumping of trash will not be allowed “at any cost” if it fails to meet the May 2010 deadline.
The villagers, however, allowed the PMC to resume dumping activity, which had been stopped since Tuesday last following a fire at the Urali Devachi garbage depot.

Ajit Pawar, guardian minister, to announce the new site for setting up an additional garbage depot for Pune at the right time!

Pune generates more than 1,500 metric tonnes of solid waste daily

"Locals might raise objections even before the work starts!"

The new depot will have all the advanced technologies in placed for garbage management and treatment, said Pawar, who was speaking at the District Planning And Development Committee meeting.

However, he refused to speak about the location of the proposed depot, stating that locals might raise objections even before the work starts. The site is within Pune district limits and close to the city and it had been selected after a survey which was undertaken by the government.

It has been found that the city needs an additional garbage depot as the existing depot at Urali Devachi is not sufficient to handle the increasing load.
