Who stole the playgrounds for kids in Pune

Where to go for a morning walk in Pune:

When I post photos of my morning walks on Facebook, many find it difficult to believe that such a place exists in Pune. That's why I started asking my friends - "Where do you go for a morning walk?".

My young friends told me that - Morning walk is for the Senior Citizens and Middle-aged couples. Young prefer Zumba dancing, cycling, jogging or gymming.

Yeah! They were right!! The old guys talked about the old places like - Sarasbaug, Parvati Hills, Taljai Hills. So, obviously, the other day I visited Parvati and Sarasbaug.

To my surprise, I came across more young people than the old guys at Parvati. Besides the traditional Yoga, these young once were busy doing some uniquely creative exercise routines. A group of young girls in shorts told me that they were students of some academy which trains young athletes at Parvati.

Even at Sarasbaug, there was an outdoor gym!

While sipping my first-morning tea at a stall outside Sarasbaug, I told the Chaiwalla - "Pune has become a city of young and healthy people who love to exercise wherever they can!"

"What else can they do? They do it wherever they find an open space," the Chaiwalla said.

"I am not talking about young lovers. I am talking about young guys who love to exercise - workout - व्यायाम - कसरत," I tried to make myself clear.

"Today's kids have no places to play. Builders and corporators have stolen the playgrounds of the kids in Pune," the Chaiwalla said.

"Oh! You are talking about kids and playgrounds!! Today's parents are smart. They know that a kid who plays becomes a Chaiwalla like you or a Blogger like me. Not an IT Engineer like his parents! So, when they book a flat - all they look for is - a separate bedroom for a child - where their child can study and play video games - you know? Nowadays- playing a video game is a career option - not a waste of time! That's why you will find playgrounds in the old bungalow societies in Kothrud - but not in newly developed areas of PMC or PCMC - you know? Some smart Hinjewadi IT engineers make it a point to buy flats in the fringe villages where there are no playgrounds!," I tried to update his knowledge.

What say you?

Do you let your kid waste his energy on a playground?

What is the ROI of mingling among the kids of his own age - wasting time playing some random games which have no international recognition or no global commercial potential?

Isn't it stupid to blame the corporators and builders who develop modern commercial ventures out of useless open spaces in Pune?

Yes! Sports and Games play important role in the economic development!! We all contribute to it by subscribing and watching sports channels.

In short - #5MinuteAur and Khelo India Youth Games Maharashtra 2019 is nothing but entertainment for our kids. Right?
