Only 5.25 TMC water in dams for drinking needs:
The irrigation department on Saturday stated that the dams which supply water to Pune have only 5.25 TMC water, which is sufficient to fulfill the city’s drinking water needs for the next six months. It added that the existing 40 per cent water cut will remain for the next few days. The department has stated that as per the schedule, 33 per cent of the total water storage at four dams is reserved for drinking purposes, while the remaining 66 per cent is used to meet the region’s agricultural needs.
As of today, the four dams - Varasgaon, Panshet, Pavana and Khadakwasla - have 15.93 TMC (57.46%) water. Considering this storage, the dams have only 5.25 TMC of water for drinking purposes and remaining is reserved for agricultural purposes.
The irrigation department stated that it would hold a meeting with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials within the next 2 or 3 days in order to decide whether there should be a reduction in the existing 40% water cut. ETOI & TOI
