No headway in Chakan airport project

No Movement:


Even as the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) have strongly advocated to the government to continue with the Chakan airport project and consider private investment, the officials at the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) are maintaining there is "no movement" in the project. A senior official from MADC said on condition of anonymity that nothing had happened in the project in the past five months.

"There are no new fresh orders and even after putting forth our report about the site not being appropriate for an airport, there has been no progress on alternative sites,"said the officer.

Plans for a dedicated international airport in Pune district, which have been locked in land acquisition issues at the present site Chakan, was to be taken up by guardian minister Ajit Pawar who had said that they were checking on alternative sites.   1. This project is a fraud run by politicians. The modus operandi consists of buying the land around the site, announcing the project followed by selling off the land to settlers at inflated prices. The same scam operated in the 1990s, except that the focus then was on transactions in the Baner-Balewadi area.
