Sewage treatment plants not enough to curb river pollution

Water expert and Magsaysay award-winner Rajendra Singh on Monday said that the sewage treatment plants (STPs) constructed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) did not serve the purpose of cleaning the Pavana river as the treated water was released into the polluted river.

"The PCMC should give the treated sewage water to the army dairy farm and the civic gardens. Then one can say that the money used for treating the river water has not been wasted," said Singh.

"Pimpri-Chinchwad residents are fortunate that the water near their source of drinking water (near the bund at Ravet) is clean. People living downstream of Pimpri-Chinchwad along the river should also get clean water," he added.

He stated that encroachments, exploitation and pollution were the three major threats to rivers all over the country. "I saw all these threats during the inspection of the Pavana river in Pimpri-Chinchwad," he said.

Singh and other activists are in Pimpri-Chinchwad to attend the Nadi Chintan Shibir' (a meeting to discuss the problems of rivers), organised by the PCMC with the aim of protecting the Pavana and Indrayani rivers. The meeting will be held at 10 am on Tuesday at Narayan Meghaji Lokhande hall in Pimpri.

  1. Your blog has become a PMC and PCMC news channel in the name of Pune Real Estate.

In that sense, everything would be related to RE directly or indirectly.

Like, say China objected to Dalai Lama visit to Arunachal Pradesh recently,
India objected and said that AP is part of India,

Chinese fumed and would keep fuming,
Potential of Chinese war would increase,
S/W outsourcing to India would come down, Chinese would increase rhetoric and give out war cries,
S/W industry outsourcing would start going down,
RE prices too would start going down,
Pune would becomes cheap, REwise..., which should influence the decision to buy right now or postpone ...

Hence, visit of Dalai Lama should also have been a news item on your blog, because it was related to Pune RE !

BTW, you could also report the latest MNS-Azmi oath-taking spat, since that would also influence RE buying. If someone wants to buy a flat in Pune, would it be safe, etc.

    Happy blogging and news posting!
