Mantri Realty is investing Rs 100 crore in Kolhapur for setting up an IT park, shopping mall and a residential township: 9 Sep, 2007: Mantri will be investing Rs 20-crore in the IT park, christened Mantri Info Park which will be spread over 1-lakh sq ft and is expected to be ready in a year's time. It will have a seating capacity of 1,000.

Bhagyashree's Marathi debut: Sep 13, 2007:The Maine Pyar Kiya girl, Bhagyashree makes her debut in "Zhak Marlee Bayako Kelee", a Marathi film, the muhurat of which was held at Tembalia temple in Kolhapur recently. The film is produced by Nandkumar Vichare and directed by Bhaskar Jadhav.

State sugar co-op in carbon credits race: Sep 11, 2007: Kagal is a small town on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border, easy to overlook on the map. But a co-operative sugar mill there, the Chhatrapati Shahumaharaj Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana (SSK), will start its carbon credit trading from November, once the sugarcane crushing season gets underway in October. The mill is currently in the process of signing up with the Austrian government. Incidentally, Kagal is near Kolhapur.

Bom HC issues contempt notice to Maharashtra minister: 11 September 2007: The Bombay High Court has issued contempt notices to Maharashtra Marketing Minister Harshawardhan Patil and seven others for failing to hold elections to the Kolhapur Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), as directed by the court.

Height-gain surgery lands man in soup: 22 Aug 2007: Who says only ramp models go under the knife to change the way they look? A 28-year-old from Kolhapur so desperately wanted a job as an assistant motor vehicle inspector that when his natural height failed him he knocked on a surgeon's door to acquire the additional centimetres. But the caper landed him, and the doctor, in jail, after the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), which conducts the exam to select inspectors for the Road Transport Office, found out.

Elephantine rescue plan on: August 25, 2007: The Maharashtra government has decided to establish the state’s first-ever elephant rescue and rehabilitation centre.
A water-locked no-man’s land near Kolhapur is marked for this proposed centre which will be developed as a major eco-tourism attraction.

Pudhari Publications christens radio venture Tomato FM; to go on-air sometime this week: September 03 2007: Pudhari Publications, publisher of the Marathi newspaper ‘Pudhari’, has decided to christen its radio venture as ‘Tomato FM’, following a contest in Kolhapur and Sangli that the company has licenses for.

Akshay Urja Din celebrations: August 19: The Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA) has organised statewide functions on Akshay Urja Din, celebrated on the birth anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, on Monday to create an awareness on the advantages of the use of renewable energy.
“The state-level celebrations will be organised in Kolhapur while the functions will be held in all the districts,” MEDA director General Mahesh Zagade said.
