Less can be more when designing a house

MADISON — Architect Duo Dickinson wants to build a little humanity into home design.

It’s not an earth-shattering idea, that home buyers should have a say about the design of their house, arguably a person’s most important possession.

The idea is that a small, aesthetically pleasing home custom-designed to fit a specific family’s needs is better than a hulking, cookie-cutter McMansion in a sprawling neighborhood.

The trend of late had been toward the latter. But Dickinson and a group of like-minded architects are working to redirect that trend.
